In this modern age, there is overwhelming amounts of information literally at our fingertips.  And yet, there is so much confusion on this very subject.  Can a person truly be saved and know it with any certainty?   Thankfully, we have a source on this subject, superior to all others - the Word of God.  God has given us His Word that we might know Him and the salvation that He Himself has provided.  The Word of God clearly teaches certain things that help one must understand true salvation and how to accept God’s free gift of eternal life.

First of all we must realize our personal condition as a sinner.

Romans 3:10 states, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”  And then again in Romans 3:23 the Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

The truth is that not one person is good enough to earn salvation.  Salvation is not based upon personal goodness or righteousness.  It is not found in the idea that “I’m not as bad as ______”, or “I’ve never _____________”.  Salvation only comes when I realize that compared to a Holy God, I truly do “come short of the glory of God.

Hebrews 6:1 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

In order for a person to be saved, they must realize that their own goodness is not good enough, and they, just like all mankind, are a sinner in the sight of a Holy God.

Secondly we all must understand that if we remain in that sinful state, there is punishment for sin.

Romans 6:23a, “For the wages of sin is death;

Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

It is certainly not a popular message, but the truth is, there is a hell to shun.  Hell is not a figment of your imagination.  Hell is not troublesome times here on earth.  According to the Word of God it is a literal place where a person, after this life is over, spends all eternity.  The Bible teaches that Hell is a place of eternal anguish and suffering, a place of outer darkness, and a place of separation.  This is the true reality that awaits the person who rejects Jesus Christ as their way of salvation.

Thirdly we find that there is good news.  Jesus paid the price of sin so that we wouldn’t have to.

Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

There is no question about it; God loves us so much that He was willing to let His only begotten Son be crucified upon a cross so that we might have salvation.  Jesus took the beatings, the mocking, and the cross to provide us a way of escape.  We don’t have to endure the punishment for our sin if we will only accept the payment that was provided by Jesus.

Fourthly we must accept Jesus’ sacrificial death as our only hope of salvation; personally receive Him as our Savior.

John 1:12, “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:

Every religion in the world comes up with their own way to “heaven”, but there is only one way, and that is through Jesus Christ.

Acts  4:12,”Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

All that is truly necessary to have eternal life is to repent of, or turn from, our sin and personal righteousness, and place our faith in what Jesus did for us when He died and rose again."

Ro 10:9-10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  (10)For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Why not simply call out to God and confess to Him your desire to repent and trust Jesus for your salvation.

Maybe pray something along these lines. (Remember, it’s not a prayer that gives you eternal lif, Jesus gives it when we confess our belief in Him.)

“God, I know that I’m a sinner. Please forgive me for my sins.  I’m trusting You, Jesus, and what You did for me on the cross, and that you rose again from the grave for my salvation. I’m placing my faith completely in You. Thank You for this gift of salvation. Amen.”
